Book Review: Fire & Ice by Julie Garwood

by Kristi on January 24, 2009

Ahh, Julie Garwood, another one of my favorite authors who sits up in my special bookcase upstairs. Garwood has been a favorite of mine for YEARS and I really loved her with the historical novels she used to write. Lately she is writing contemporary murder mystery with the traditional romance slant. I think I prefer some of her older books better, such as Castles, Saving Grace, or The Wedding. She has a funny but sweet way of writing her heroines and I think I enjoy the style of them better in the Medieval or Regency time.

Fire & Ice came out a few weeks ago and while I didn’t read it immediately, I finally sat down with it last weekend and finished it pretty quickly! The heroine, Sophie Rose, had a lot in common with other heroine’s written by Garwood but I enjoyed her quite a bit. She was witty, smart, and determined. The magnetism between Jack and Sophie was wonderful. Learning more about Sophie’s mysterious father, Bobbie Rose, was a humorous side plot. The main plot seemed to go in a few different (confusing) directions but it all wrapped up at the end and made sense. Which is always a good thing. 🙂  Garwood brought back some of her previous characters from past books which is always fun.  It seemed like a new book will be coming for one of Sophie’s best friends which sounds like it should be good.

I am glad I purchased the hard cover to add to my collection in my bookshelf (the hardcovers always look so nice!) but for new readers, I might suggest that you wait for the paperback. Or come borrow mine!
