A few weeks ago I won tickets to see Kung Fu Panda at the new Ultra Luxe Theater at the GardenWalk in Anaheim. I was super excited because the husband and I had been arguing about viewing it with the kids. I said I had heard it was too violent and I wasn’t in love with the first movie, and he was ALL about it. Then, two days later I saw a giveaway for tickets and I entered… and won! Alrighty then.
The husband was excited. So was I, actually. We went and found out Po was there with t-shirts, posters, and tattoos and the kids LOVED IT. We made the mistake of telling them several days in advance so alllll we heard about the whole weekend was the fact that I won tickets and we were going on Sunday. They told everyone they came in contact with and the night before, Sam said she was so excited about it she couldn’t go to sleep.
It made me realize that our usual MO of keeping them in the dark about fun plans is the best way to do it. Yes, we are terrible. We are okay with it.
Anyway, Kung Fu Panda was great. Griffin has now turned into a ‘hi-yah!’ master and is kicking our couch into submission but it was worth it. The couch is still intact, anyway.
Last week, I got an email asking if we were interested in coming to the press event for the Cars 2 premiere at the same theater. Were we ever! We learned this time and didn’t tell the kids until we were walking up to the theater door. They were still excited. 🙂
The movie was a little slow. I think kids a little older would have appreciated it more. I didn’t like that they had such a focus on KILLING people, especially as Sam was asking me after why everyone wanted to kill **** (no spoiler!). She is old enough to slightly get it though so I’m not really worried but… Cars 1? Was definitely better.
The Ultra Luxe Theater was amazing though! I’m not saying that just because they gave my kids a free Cars puzzle either. 🙂 It’s a really nice theater with a Cafe (that serves alcohol!) and a lot of amazing programs going on this summer.
It really kills me that the whole GardenWalk complex is completely empty all the time. It’s such a great hidden gem. They have tons of yummy restaurants and hopefully they will get some better shops soon… but it’s empty. It’s right across from the convention center, maybe it gets busy when there are huge events there? I have no idea but it does make me a little sad.
They just announced its 2011 Summer Movie Series, which provides “10 weeks of recently released, family-friendly films for the one-time ticket price of $5.00” which sounds pretty good.
Ultra Luxe also has:
· Kidtoons films (G-rated animated films every Sat. and Sun at 10:30 a.m., all year round. Admission is only $2.50. This month’s feature is Thomas & Friends: Hero of the Rails.)
· Parent Movie Morning (every Wednesday at 10 a.m., features stroller parking and changing tables in theater and reduced volume. Screening new releases that parents want to see.) ~ Seriously though, changing tables? That eeks me out.
· Baby’s Night Out (second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., features stroller parking and changing tables in theater and reduced volume. Screening new releases that parents want to see!)
Lots of other fun stuff which you can check out on their website. They mentioned they have the only D Box seats in Orange County. Don’t know what D Box is? Oh yea, the seats MOVE with the action, baby! They said they are debuting it with the Harry Potter movie coming you. You know which one I’m talking about! I’m tempted to go see it there… OH, I’m so tempted! We shall see.
It’s a cute place though! Thanks Ultra Luxe for hosting my family today! We all loved it.
