I Heart Amazon

by Kristi on December 11, 2008

I have been a loyal customer of Amazon for quite some time.  I signed up for their Amazon Prime when it first came out. (If you need items QUICK for Christmas, you should sign up for it as well – 2 day shipping! – and then you can cancel after the first month if you need to. It’s a great program though!) It was pretty fantastic, although I declined to renew last year because I really didn’t need it that badly.

I still keep meaning to compare prices to my local Borders and online Amazon but never quite have managed to do so… But still, I do love Amazon. They sell nearly everything and I purchased about 60% of my Christmas shopping this year.  I have probably done the same for many of the past Christmas’s as well.

A few days ago, a random stranger rang our doorbell as we were about to leave for dinner on Sammie’s birthday.  He handed us a box and said he found it open three streets down! It had our address on it so he came up and delivered it to us.  What a nice man! J answered the door so I didn’t quite hear who he was, I think he said he did maintenance around the area? I’m not sure.  Anyway, J brought the box in and I peeked in and there were three items in there. Two books and a Leapster game. There was no packing slip.

After I peeked in the box, we went and jumped in the car but my mind was racing.  This was part of a HUGE order I made about a week ago.  During stops at red lights I was frantically typing away on my iPhone for answers.

May I saw that Amazon has a particularly FABULOUS mobile website? It is very fast and easy to navigate!

But, yes, 2/3’s of my order was missing from the box!  3 DVDs, 1 DS game, and two more books.  OMG!

What HAPPENED to that box? I examined it when I got home and it was clearly torn or slit open on the tape.  Why there were three items still in there, was quite the mystery.  Was the box stolen off my porch? That never happens.  Did it drop off the USPS car? They do drive rather fast through the neighborhood!

I fired off an email to Amazon later that night. I toyed with calling them directly through their neat ‘We will Call YOU!’ program but decided to wait.

Luckily, not 30 minutes later I had an email from Customer Support telling me that since it appears my items were lost, they would be shipping me out a new order with regular Standard Shipping (instead of my slower Super Saver shipping that I had initially ordered) with no new charges.

Amazon, I love you.

I should be getting those items on Monday, just enough time to wrap the last ones, put them in a box, and send them off to Oregon and New York to relatives in time for Christmas!

I definitely give a thumbs up to Amazon, and encourage anyone to do business with them.  They know Customer Service!
