Black Ice

Ouch!

We walked down our ice covered hill to our car as we were getting ready to leave Big Bear on New Year’s day. The dogs are behind the fence freaking out as they know they are getting ready to go jump in the car. I’m loaded down with 4 bags of stuff plus my purse and camera case while Justin is starting to load Sam in on the other side of the car.

Crash then decides to completely CLEAR our 6 foot fence. CLEAR it. He did that last year when we had two feet of snow. We had two INCHES of snow this time. Grrrr…. I’m the closest to the fence as I realize he’s now next to me and the car so I start screaming at him while I frantically try and figure out how to grab him seeing as Justin has his hands full.

Probably not the wisest choice but please remember that this is the dog that will happily run ahead of you if he gets off his leash, turn around and smile EVILY as he watches you chase after him, only to run faster and not stop at all.

Crash then runs over to Justin (while he is still holding Sam) and J says he’s got him.

I scramble around the back of the car (with all my junk over my shoulders and in my hands) and as I go to reach for Crash’s collar I do the classic slide on the ice that was surrounding our car and fall on my ass.

Fucking great.

Ouch. Totally took my breath away and I had to a) try and figure out how to breathe through the pain b) see if I can stand up and c) try not to cry. It wasn’t horribly horrible but I’m a complete baby on pain and when I get hurt I would rather just curl up for awhile, pout, and sulk a little until I feel better. Sadly, I did not have those options available to me at the time so I had to get up, open the back so Crash could get in, and pick up all my stuff and put it back in the car.

Blah.

It was kind of funny though as I fell, Sammie started screaming. I think cause she saw me fall? Justin was freaked out too. I don’t know why I’m surprised that babies can be so sensitive to what’s going on around them. I just thought it was amusing that she was upset because I was upset.

Later that afternoon we were going to the store and I said, “It must have been slightly amusing seeing me fall though. The classic scramble on the ice…” and Justin replied, “No, not at all! I was worried… I was worried you may have broken your… ass or something”. Ahhh…

Not broken. Just bruised. At least I have a lot of extra padding down there. 🙂

Happy New Year!
