Whew, time flies! We had our second World of Girls Journey meeting for our Brownie Girl Scouts on September 26, 2013.
I’m not sure if I mentioned in our first meeting how chaotic it was. Looking back, we should have sat down and had a recap of the rules for our troop. Our second meeting was just as loud, yelling, screaming, and not-paying-attention as our first meeting was. Darn it. Oh well! Live and learn.
Since we ran out of time in our first meeting, we had all the stuff ready for this meeting. We were passing out all of our Membership Stars so we had some girls from an older Junior Troop come in and pass out, and pin the stars on the girls. We sang a song with them and they promised to come back and teach us another new song.
This month was an Italy theme. A parent knocked it out of the park and brought some deliciousness that all the girls appreciated. She capped it off with small ‘Fresca’ drinks and we saved the bottles for a recycling art craft later on in the year.
We talked about our new Kaper chart, how much money we have left in our bank account, and the fact that Fall Product Sales were starting that weekend. We had a lot of responses for Legoland and Disneyland as a possible trip/treat if we raised enough money this year.
We brought out the big world map I talked about last meeting. This was really fun as everyone went around the circle talking about what countries they associated with. We put sticky notes on each one with their names and it was fun to see all the responses.
In an attempt to try and get the girls to own a little responsibility, we had a little vote on how long we should do our art project and how long we should do games and songs for.
The art project ran long, it was more difficult to glue everyone’s flag and stamp their passport. The girls had a fun time singing Christmas songs doing it though. (They love singing Christmas songs!)
We sang a new song that I learned at a Songs/Games/Ceremonies training session the week before as our ending song and I promised we would spend half our meeting doing games next time!
Then, they all left and I collapsed in a heap and we brainstormed on how to get a smoother meeting next time. And we only have twelve girls! We did email all the parents this week to remind their girls on how to behave for meetings, and we will be covering rules next time. Whew!
