Sam was in Girl Scouts last year through her school and they had 29 girls in the troop. Fun but crazy! So this year I am now one of the leaders for a smaller group of 13 girls. I was super nervous last year until I realized that these cute little girls love to talk to any adult (me included) and think doing pretty much anything is cool usually if it is accompanied by a lot of screaming and shrieking.
So our first meeting last month was great. We collected crayons and small toys for a 1st grade class in the Philippines and made troop t-shirts that were fabulously designed by a Mom and then ironed on to the shirts.
I just want to point out that my bright idea was to have them all sign each others shirts with puffy paint when, luckily, brighter heads prevailed. Each girl wrote her name down, then it was run through Photoshop to make the background transparent, and then put on the Daisy petals… created into a PDF and printed onto the iron-ons and then ironed on the shirts. So. Cool. We got so many comments on them!
Seven girls were able to make it to the fair, along with three older siblings in two other troops, and a few other younger siblings too. You can’t see that well but most of the girls have butterflies on their tshirts… “I’m going to a butterfly on my tshirt!” “That’s a great idea, I’m going to do that too!” “Me, too!” ha 🙂 Seriously, these girls are so cute and funny.
They were most excited about being in the parade. We were super casual and made Girl Scout wands to wave about while marching, and they were perfectly happy to do so. When they got a bit tired from walking around, we gracefully bowed out.
Got some face painting done.
Rode on some rides and gracefully left the part. My sweet baby had a good time too. I love how he is smiling at me, knowing I am snapping his picture. haha
