I picked up Lie to Me at Borders the other day before we left to Big Bear. It had a cute cover and text blurb on the front that hooked me, so I skimmed the back and added it to my pile. I ended up starting and finishing it in a day up in Big Bear it was extremely catchy and cute!
You are introduced to Eleanor Coggins as she is sneaking into a house during a party where she quickly runs into Jack Payton, the ‘black sheep of his well-bred family’. The two immediately have some hot sparks going off due to an impromptu kiss to fool the family as they are both not supposed to be where they were found… Jack pops out the words that they are engaged because he has ulterior motives and Eleanor is forced to go along because of information she is looking for on Jack’s younger brother. So they are using each other.
The mystery that goes on throughout the book is not that suspenseful. You don’t see much of the main antagonist but that is probably a good thing. The witty characters and flirty romance keeps this book a page turner though. It was quite amusing and a great read. Ellie is hysterical, quick on her feet, with some good vulnerabilities thrown in to make her seem very human. Jack is definitely sexy and every chapter you are learning something new about him that catches your attention and keeps you reading.
I found out that this is Starr Ambrose’s first book which was surprising. I was a little bummed. I am looking forward to her next novel which seems to be slated for the end of 2009.
